Delete pages from a PDF without uploading the document
Remove the pages you do not want and export the rest as a new document. The original is untouched and nothing leaves your browser.
Deleting a page from a PDF is one of those operations that feels like it should be built into every reader and generally is not. Adobe Reader will not do it, Preview will only sometimes, and the browser you are reading the file in certainly will not. So people end up uploading a document to a website to remove one blank sheet from it.
This tool removes pages in your browser and gives you back a new file containing the rest. It is most often used for the mundane things — the blank separators a duplex scanner inserts, a cover sheet, a fax header, an internal note that should not go out with the rest.
That last case is worth being precise about, because it is the one where getting it wrong matters. Deleting a page here genuinely removes it from the exported document; the page is not carried across at all. But read the limitations before you rely on that for something confidential.
Nothing is uploaded
The document is read and rebuilt inside the browser tab, which is what you want when the reason for deleting a page is that it is sensitive.
The remaining pages are untouched
Pages you keep are carried across as they are — same text, same image quality. Nothing is re-rendered.
Your original is never modified
The result is a new file. The document you started with stays exactly as it was on your disk.
How to delete pages from a PDF
Open the PDF and preview its pages.
Mark the ones you want to remove.
The remaining pages are reassembled in your browser.
Download the new document.
The page you are deleting is never uploaded
Worth stating plainly: on a cloud service, removing a confidential page means uploading it first. Here the document is opened and rebuilt on your own machine, so the page you wanted gone never travels anywhere.
When people reach for this
Clearing the blanks out of a duplex scan
Scanning a single-sided stack in duplex mode inserts an empty page after every sheet. Removing them halves the page count and makes the document sensible to read and print.
Dropping cover sheets and fax headers
Documents that arrive through office equipment collect routing pages that mean nothing once the file is filed. Deleting them is tidying, not editing.
Removing an internal note before sending
A draft comment page or an internal approval sheet that belongs in your copy but not in the client's. Deleting it produces a version you can send without a second thought about that page.
Getting under a page or size limit
Submission portals cap page counts as often as file sizes. Removing appendices you were not asked for is usually simpler than compressing.
What actually happens to your file
Deleting pages is implemented as the inverse of keeping them. When you mark pages for removal, the tool computes the complement — the ranges of pages you did not mark — and expresses that as a page range string.
That range is passed to pdfcpu's trim operation, compiled to WebAssembly and running in your browser. Trim builds a new document containing exactly the pages in the range, carrying each one across as an object along with the resources it references.
The deleted pages are therefore never processed at all. They are not blanked, overwritten or emptied; they are simply not among the pages copied into the new document. That is a meaningfully stronger outcome than hiding a page, and it is why the export genuinely does not contain them.
The cross-reference table is rebuilt for the smaller document, which is written out and downloaded. Your source file is not modified and is never transmitted.
Where it falls short, honestly
- The file may not get much smaller. Resources shared across the document, embedded fonts especially, can be carried over even when the pages that used them are gone. Deleting half the pages rarely halves the byte size.
- Content referenced by a deleted page can persist. The page itself is gone, but if an image or font object it used is also referenced elsewhere, that object comes across with the pages that need it. For ordinary tidying this is irrelevant; for genuinely sensitive material, verify the export rather than assuming.
- Document metadata is not cleaned. Title, author and creation software travel with the file regardless of which pages you removed.
- Bookmarks and internal links pointing at deleted pages will break, since their targets no longer exist.
- Nothing detects blank pages for you. They have to be identified by eye in the preview.
- Encrypted files must be unlocked first — pages cannot be read while the document is encrypted.
Compared with an online page remover
| This tool | Typical cloud tool | |
|---|---|---|
| Where your file goes | Nowhere. It stays in the browser tab. | The whole document is uploaded, including the page you are deleting. |
| Deleting a sensitive page | It never leaves your device. | It is uploaded first, then removed. |
| Quality of kept pages | Lossless — carried across as objects. | Usually lossless, but unverifiable. |
| Page limits | Bounded only by your device's memory. | Commonly capped on free tiers. |
| Works offline | Yes, once the page has loaded. | No. |
| Watermarks | None. | Frequently added on free tiers. |
