Split and extract pages from your PDFs easily and privately

Separate a large document into smaller parts or extract only the pages you need. The process is visual, lightning-fast, and completely private since it happens directly on your device.

Splitting a PDF is really two different tasks that share a name. One is extraction: you want pages 12 to 30 of a long report and nothing else. The other is division: you want a 200-page scan broken into the individual documents it actually contains. This tool does the first, precisely, and gives you the building block for the second.

The operation itself is a trim: you specify a page range, and a new document is produced containing exactly those pages, with everything else discarded. The pages that survive are unchanged — same text, same images, same quality — because they are carried over rather than re-rendered.

It runs in your browser, which matters when the reason you are extracting pages is that the rest of the document is confidential and you only want to share a part of it.

100% Private Splitting

No one else has access to your documents. Split confidential HR or finance PDFs knowing they never leave your computer.

Multiple Extraction Modes

Extract individual pages, cut by specific ranges, or split the document at fixed intervals (e.g., every 2 pages) with ultimate flexibility.

Intuitive Visual Interface

Use our virtual scissors on page thumbnails to make cuts exactly where you want them, visually and quickly.

How to split a PDF

1

Select your PDF file or drag it to the upload area.

2

Choose your preferred mode: "By Ranges", "Extract Pages", or "Fixed Interval".

3

Click between pages to visually establish your cuts.

4

Click "Split PDF" and download the resulting files (individually or as a ZIP archive).

Total Privacy When Splitting Documents

Unlike other tools that upload your documents to the internet to separate them, ZasPDF processes the cut directly in your computer's memory. This means it's much faster and your private documents are never exposed on the network.

When people reach for this

Sharing one section of a confidential report

A counterparty needs the methodology chapter, not the whole internal review. Extracting those pages means you send what was asked for and nothing more — a redaction by omission that is far safer than trusting a page-range setting in someone else's viewer.

Separating documents from a bulk scan

A stack fed through a document feeder becomes one long PDF containing an invoice, a delivery note and a receipt. Extracting each range turns it back into three filed documents.

Pulling a form out of a handbook

You need page 47 to print, sign and return. Extracting it saves printing the other 120 pages or fighting with a print dialog.

Getting under an upload size limit

A portal rejects anything over 10 MB. Splitting a long document into parts is often quicker than trying to compress it far enough.

What actually happens to your file

The document is read into memory and passed to pdfcpu, compiled to WebAssembly, which performs a trim against the page range you specified.

Trimming builds a new document containing only the pages you asked for. The page objects themselves are carried across intact, along with the resources they depend on — the fonts, images and colour spaces those particular pages reference.

Because pages are transplanted rather than redrawn, the operation is lossless. A page extracted from a 300-page report is bit-for-bit the same page it was, at the same quality, with its text still selectable.

The cross-reference table is then rebuilt for the smaller document, which is written out and downloaded. The source file is never transmitted.

Where it falls short, honestly

  • The output is not proportionally smaller. Resources shared across the document may be carried over even when only a few pages need them, so extracting 10 pages from a 100-page file rarely gives you a tenth of the size. Compress afterwards if that matters.
  • It cannot detect where one document ends and the next begins. Splitting a bulk scan into its constituent documents requires you to know the page ranges; nothing here reads the pages to work it out for you.
  • Bookmarks and internal links that point outside the extracted range will break, because their targets no longer exist in the new document.
  • Form fields spanning the split may not behave correctly afterwards.
  • Encrypted files must be unlocked first — the pages cannot be read while the document is encrypted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the extracted pages lower quality than the original?expand_more
No. Pages are transplanted into the new document rather than redrawn, so an extracted page is bit-for-bit the page it was, with its text still selectable and its images at full resolution.
Why is my extracted file not proportionally smaller?expand_more
Resources shared across the document — embedded fonts in particular — may be carried over even when only a few pages reference them. Ten pages out of a hundred rarely gives you a tenth of the size. Compress afterwards if you need it smaller.
Can it detect where each document in a bulk scan begins?expand_more
No. You have to supply the page ranges. Nothing here reads the page content to work out that page 14 starts a new invoice.
Do my bookmarks and internal links still work?expand_more
Links whose targets fall inside the extracted range are fine. Anything pointing to a page you did not keep will break, because that page no longer exists in the new document.
How does page extraction work?expand_more
You can choose the "Extract Pages" option to select single pages (e.g., page 3 and 7). You can then decide whether to download them as separate PDFs or merge them into one new file.
How do I download all the split parts?expand_more
If splitting generates multiple files, ZasPDF will offer a convenient button to download all the parts organized in a single compressed (ZIP) file.
Can I split a very large PDF?expand_more
Yes! By working locally, the only real limit is your device's capacity. Processing large files locally is often much faster than uploading them to a traditional website.
Does the split file maintain its original quality?expand_more
Absolutely. Splitting a PDF does not alter the content or compression of the internal images; it simply separates the page structure.
